Is There Anything Better Than Watching God Work?

At the time of this writing, I’m sitting on the deck of our lakeside cottage enjoying our annual anniversary together time. I can’t believe it’s been 8 years since God joined us together.  It’s been an immense blessing to do life and ministry side by side. Last week was definitely a highlight in our lives!

Is there anything better than watching God work?

We’ve just come off of a week of special meetings at our church. A lot of prayer and hard work went into preparing for them, and God blessed! By last night, the windows of heaven were open. I wept at the piano during the invitation as I watched God answering prayer before our very eyes. Tears of joy came after the service with families who have had great burdens to bear. Together, we watched God’s hand at work, and I believe it’s just a glimpse of what He will do in the future.

Friends {especially pastors’ wives}- sometimes it may seem that you are labouring alone. Praying alone. Giving alone. Working until you don’t have any strength left.  Agonizing alone over the many needs and burdens of your people. Can I encourage you today with the fact that God gives the increase? We don’t always see it, but once in awhile He lets us have a glimpse of His hand.

Last week was a rush of activity- a flurry of hurry that found me hardly at home long enough to say hello to my houseplants. All of it was very enjoyable as we hosted good ministry friends, practiced music, cleaned the church, organized a ladies’ brunch, and kept things running smoothly for the meetings. But by the end of the week, I was physically exhausted, and in my tired state I wondered why…am I doing all this? Is it really making a difference? When God moved, I had my answer.

So now, as I sit in perfect tranquility following the rush of last week, I ponder many things. Maybe I’ll be able to better put them into words in the next little while on my blog.

The ways that God works…are amazing. The ways He orchestrates events, people, chance meetings with another, phone calls, friends, conversations, prayers, even thoughts and desires…

The longer I love Him, the more I’m quite sure that my finite mind will never grasp the awe of Him.

There’s nothing more wonderful than watching God at work. I offer Him the gift of a peaceful soul, at rest in the undeserved love and attention to my life and the lives around me.

Birds, open your throats and sing on. Trees, rustle in the breeze. Ducks, skim the lake. Flowers, bloom. Fish, jump up and praise. Sun, stream onto my face.

My God is at work!
