Tears splash and a high pitched wail alert the fact that the vacuum has devoured yet another most precious toy. So small…how can a mother-eye detect its presence in time to save its life?
And yet, those small ones are the most treasured toys of my little brood. Last night, after being shot out of a homemade rocket, a tiny angry bird went missing. Small Son scoured the pile of unfolded laundry, emphatically insisting that the bird was residing nearby, and that it must be found.
He ‘needed to use it for something.’
And so I sent him to his bath with the promise that I would do my best to locate this practically invisible creature. {I had my doubts that bird would be found} But by and by, it turned up and I went smiling to the tub where Small Son was splashing, a part of him missing until his missing toy was returned. He flashed back the same big smile. He had a plan for this little bird!
And so it is in my life. In your life.
God delights in using small things, small people.
He showed us in Scripture so that we would be aware of His ways:
A spoken word- for creation.
A red cord- to save a family alive.
A little boy’s simple lunch- for provision of the masses.
A cruse of oil- for a family’s livelihood.
A cupful of meal- for a faith increase.
A fingerful of sand and saliva- for restored sight.
A touch- for healing.
An uttered ‘peace be still’- to calm the storm. And many other small things are recorded. Still more we’ll learn of in heaven.
God delights to use small things, small people. You and me.
I am your neighbor over @ Lisa Jo’s! Loved reading about your boy, I am expecting my first baby boy myself. The reason I think the Lord uses so many small items is that we will focus on how great He is! Have a wonderful weekend!
Love, Julie
Yes, I agree! I’m so glad we can learn so much from the little ordinary stuff. Congrats on your little boy on the way. 🙂 Thanks for visiting from FMF!
oh my, leah … we both wrote about the small toys!
what a lovely coincidence, how sweet to meet you!
How neat! I’m going over now to visit you. 🙂 Thanks for stopping by- it seems that God was speaking to us much the same way today. 🙂
You are much more sanguine about small toys than I am. I mostly resist the urge to travel my home with a giant garbage bag, shoving any offending toy of any size into it, just to save my sanity. But I needed to hear about God using small things and small people. It’s hard not to feel small and insignificant as a mom, and yet be frustrated how the world comes crashing down the minute we need to use the bathroom. That constant struggle between the urgent mundane and the desire for visible proof of significance in the form of praise or a paycheck. Thank you for the encouragement.
I totally understand what you mean about the urgent mundane and the desire for visible proof of significance. Somehow I think that moms’ rewards await in heaven. 🙂 Meanwhile, every day is a new opportunity to cherish the small. {And for the record, I have my days where I want to bag up all the small toys too!} 🙂 Blessings to you! ~Leah
Leah, Thanks for stopping by on FMF. I popped over for a visit and very much enjoyed your biblical examples of God using the small things. What a wonderful reminder for all of us that the small things count!
Hi Elizabeth, thanks so much for visiting! I’m glad God uses the things that are right in front of us to teach us. 🙂
What a delightful reminder of God’s love and care— and use of small people!!!! Great!!
Thank you for stopping by, Dee. I think I will miss the “small” lessons when our children get older. 🙂
