Today’s catch phrase is:
Live for the eternal.
Oh, how I need this reminder…and often. It is SO easy in ministry to see what’s right in front of us, to lose sight of what it’s really all about. When we go weeks or months without seeing progress from our human standpoint, we begin to think that we are not making a difference. When evil wins and carnality rules, we feel tempted to give it all up, thinking, “What’s the use, anyway? Satan always gets his way.”
But we forget about the eternal. The ETERNAL- the things that cannot pass away. We forget that God judges on a totally different system than ours, and operates completely outside of our boundaries of time. He is a righteous Judge, so perfect and trustworthy with our life events.
Dear ministry leader, take heart. When it seems that God isn’t moving in your midst, live for the eternal. When all that meets the eye is failure, live for the eternal. When souls aren’t being saved, continue to share the eternal Gospel. When critics tell you that you can’t do anything right, live for the eternal. Do it for GOD. When sin is promoted and Godliness is mocked, live for the eternal. When your risky stand for what is right threatens to destroy you, live for the eternal. When you can’t figure out why you tried so hard, live for the eternal.
I’m convinced that heaven will blow our minds. There will be service recorded and complimented by God that will shock us. There will be obscure people brought to light because of stalwart faithfulness. There will be wrongs righted in such a way that all we can do is bow and worship. And those things that you’ve forgiven and forgotten by now? God will remember.
Far too often, we look for blessings here on earth. And that’s not all bad. But friend? Most of them are not here. They are in heaven, waiting for us as a reward for faithful service. Waiting so that we can turn around and give them back to the One Who made it all possible.
He sees you. He knows your heart for Him. He wants you above all else to
Live for the eternal.
Let’s Chat: Isn’t it so easy to begin to look at temporal results and human justices? How do you keep yourself inspired to focus on eternal things in ministry?
Amen! Great thoughts.
