31 Days of Fishbowl Grace:Practical Tips for Women in Ministry

31 Days of Fishbowl Grace: SUPPORT {Day 21}

Today’s catch phrase is:

Support other ministry families.

Some of the most treasured relationships that my husband and I have are with other ministry families. When we moved to Canada, we hardly  knew a soul. But now, eight years later {today to be exact!}, we have made so many dear friends who are like minded. Many of them are our own age, which makes for great family times when all the PKs can run around together and develop their own friendships.

It’s easy in ministry to get wrapped up in our own ministry and neglect to reach out often to other ministry families who need encouragement. You never know when that phone call or visit will make a difference in someone’s life.

I’ll never forget one of the times in particular when a ministry family reached out to us. We were facing a crisis at the time, and we got a phone call one night. It was a pastor friend whom we had gotten to know on a few occasions. He asked if we would be home the next day, and could he and his wife come visit us? We agreed upon the assumption that they had business/errands to take care of nearby and would just pop in on their way home. No such thing.

They got babysitters for their children and then drove 6 hours one way specifically to minister to us in our time of grief. They took us out to eat, listened to our hearts, prayed with us, filled our car with gasoline, and turned around to head home- another 6 hour drive.

That act of love and encouragement floored us. It still brings tears to my eyes to think of how much it meant to us, and what a sacrifice it was for them to do that.

So, while you’re carrying your own ministry burdens, don’t forget to reach out intentionally to other ministry families. They need the encouragement just as much as you do. My husband is so great at keeping up with his pastor friends and finding ways to support other ministry friends. Sometimes all it takes is a quick phone call or email. Perhaps you can invite them over or plan a trip together {that is, if they aren’t halfway across the world}. And as always, prayer support is the most important form of encouragement! The bottom line? Find out what their needs are and ask God how He can use you to help meet them.

There is a wealth of encouragement and blessing available as you

Support other ministry families.

Let’s Chat: Do you have other ministry families around you? What are some ways that ministry families have encouraged you? Do you have some creative ideas pf your own to share? As always, I love to hear your heart!
