31 Days of Whispered Hope for Pastors' Wives

Dear Pastor’s Wife {Day 20}

31 Days of Whispered Hope for Pastors Wives

Dear Pastor’s Wife,

Psalm 25:14 “The secret of the LORD is with them that fear him; and he will shew them his covenant.”

     Have you watched “Anne of Green Gables?” Remember that part where the bitter Miss Brooke chides Anne for “always having some secret delight?”  I love how positive Anne was in general. And yes, she had her mouse-in-the-pudding times and her green hair times and her selling-the-wrong-Jersey-cow times. But she always sprang back and saw the good. Now, she was just a storybook character, and we as believers are God’s living, breathing, created, redeemed beings.

If anyone gets accused of having a “secret delight” it should be us.

      As pastors’ wives, we get to see firsthand God’s activity within His church. And just like every believer who is right with God, we get to see Him in our personal lives.

      I’m sure you know folks who just can’t seem to see the good in anything, and who want you to be miserable with them all the time. Furthermore, they can’t stand it if you are a happy person with a positive outlook on life. Yet, God promises some of His secrets to those who choose to draw near to Himself- to those who fear Him. He promises to reveal His Word to them and to give them wisdom. There are several places in the Psalms where it mentions God’s secrets and the secret place. These are special things that only you and God share. Be it an answer to prayer, a Scripture passage that came to life, an opportunity He is giving you, or an exciting life event where you see His hand- these and more are reasons to carry within you a secret delight.

      Maybe you’re in a place now where not much feels “delightful” about life. You can still have some secrets with God. You can exercise your faith and delight in Who He is even without experiencing His obvious hand. You can delight in past victories and in the ways He has grown you closer to Him. You can ask Him to show you more of Himself. You can delight in the truth of His Word.

     God has some secrets to whisper into your heart today. Lean in and listen.

XOXO,

A Kindred Spirit

P.S.  I’m sending you a virtual ((hug)) today!
