Today I’m sharing with you one of my very favourite quotes, that reflects where I want my heart to be.
“Because children have abounding vitality, because they are in spirit fierce and free, therefore they want things repeated and unchanged. They always say “do it again!” And the grown-up person does it again until he is nearly dead. For grown-up people are not strong enough to exult in monotony. But perhaps God is strong enough to exult in monotony. It is possible God says every morning, “Do it again” to the sun; and every evening, “Do it again” to the moon. It may not be automatic necessity to make all daisies appear alike; it may be that God makes every daisy separately, but has never grown tired of making them. It may be that He has the eternal appetite for infancy: for we have sinned and grown old, and our Father is younger than we.”
~G. K. Chesterton
I want to be continually ok with “again” because that is the stuff life is made of. It takes a seeming eternity of monotonous “agains” to reach the fulfillment of a dream. And to get to know our Father-God? A lifetime of daily “again” meetings in His Word and in His heart. To find God’s will? Do the daily “agains” and you will be there. Again.
Wow- I can see why you love that quote. What a beautiful picture of God- taking great delight in each daisy that he makes. I so agree with you- the beauty that we can find in the again. Thank you!!
That quote moves me every time I read it- it’s just the reminder I need to embrace the mundane. Thanks for stopping by!
Just beautiful – the picture, the quote, the sentiment. What a great way of thinking about “again” and what it can mean for us. Thank you for sharing!
Thank you for reading. The picture is of a bouquet of flowers my husband gave me last fall. I love the different types of daisies!
Leah,
What a beautiful quote–and what a beautiful dream for your everyday–to be ok with the agains of life. Thank you for that gentle, and beautiful, reminder. It’s ok to live in and love the agains!
Happy Friday!
Thanks for visiting! That quote is so profound and so moving to me. It reminds me that God created the everyday “agains.”
Again, I enjoy reading your Five minute Friday.
A lifetime of daily “again” meetings in His Word and in His heart to find God’s will.
Thanks for the reminder.
I needed the reminder too! Thanks for reading and always encouraging me in your comments!
