Dear Pastor’s Wife,
Psalm 114:8 “Which turned the rock into a standing water, the flint into a fountain of waters.”
The world is full of “hard cases,” isn’t it? We see them come from the city to the steps of our church, just as you probably do. Perhaps there are even some difficult issues within your church. You’re feeling despair over this situation or that unfortunate conflict, and you wonder if it will ever be resolved. You go back and forth between feeling hope and then realizing that still, nothing has changed. Can I help you release some of this burden that’s weighing on you today? There’s this, friend:
Only one Person can turn a rock into a fountain.
Maybe I can say it more bluntly? It’s not your problem. It’s not even your ‘job’ to try to make things work again, to force someone to change. What you are required to do is to love God and love others. Yes, even the hard cases. Just love consistently. Keep reaching out. Keep giving even when your motives are judged.
Keep extending grace even when it is met with hostility.
Keep praying for God’s revival in hearts. It’s a work that only He can do.
If your heart is free from bitterness and you know you are right with God, then rest, friend. Rest while God works. He can do the work better than you can, anyway. {Ahem}…When is the last time you tried to turn a flint {the hardest rock out there} into a fountain?
XOXO,
A Kindred Spirit
P.S. I hope you have a great Sunday today. Your husband is so blessed to have you at his side!
