Memories In Red {Five Minute Friday}

My first recollection of the word “red” is actually one of my earliest childhood memories. My mom tells me that red was my favourite colour when I was very small. This love for red was encouraged by {and maybe prompted by} none other than…a book!

The title of the book was “Ann Likes Red” and apparently we wore it out, making trips to the library and not letting anyone else check it out for at least a year. 🙂

I still remember some of the specific pictures from that book. And I haven’t seen it for years….as in, more than 25 years.

I realized again today what a tremendous impact books have on our children. It’s an impact that we moms can’t even fathom.

And I think of the Book that I want to have the greatest impact on my Small Son and Tiny Daughter: the Bible.

And so I commit. I re-commit. I fiercely guard my privilege and responsibility to teach my children this precious Book. I will fight back every time the world tries to scream louder than Scripture. I will depend on God’s grace for the strength to continually instill Scripture in these little hearts, until it is in stone. Unremovable for the rest of their lives.

This is the miracle of a living book!

And so…off I go to the library today with my children. I’m armed with “Charlotte’s Web” {for me to read to them} and “The Beginner’s Bible” {for Small Son to read to us}.

And just for memories’ sake, I’m going to look for “Ann Likes Red.”

    1. I looked for the book at the library and couldn’t find it. But I did find it on Amazon. Might just have to get it for old time’s sake. 🙂 Thanks for stopping by!

    1. Dana, thanks for visiting! I didn’t find the book at the library, but I found it on Amazon. 🙂 And I’m glad that my children are getting old enough to actually be a part of memorizing and talking about Scripture. It actually feels like it’s making a difference.
      Blessings to you!

  1. We’ve been so blessed for the past couple years since I started reading chapter books aloud to the girls every day. Before they didn’t have much of an interest in reading, but now they both love reading independently as well! We’ve read through the Little House on the Prairie series, the Grandma’s Attic series, plus lots of others. It is so fun for everyone!

  2. That’s great, Nicole! I’ve been surprised at how much the kids look forward to the new chapter each day. Right now we are reading “Charlotte’s Web” and many more are to follow with their school curriculum. I’m enjoying refreshing some of the books I enjoyed when I was younger. 🙂

  3. Do you have a spam issue on this blog; I also am a blogger, and I was wondering your situation; we have
    created some nice methods and we are looking to exchange strategies with
    other folks, why not shoot me an email if interested.
